Ivy Young

Co-creator The Channon Disaster Resilience Plan, Greens candidate Lismore Council

Ivy Young was born and raised on a small cattle farm on the Far South Coast of NSW. Ivy moved to Lismore in 1999 to study Naturopathy, with the premise that we have no chance of looking after the Earth if we don’t know how to look after ourselves. She and her husband have been living near The Channon since 2005, pioneering their land, raising two boys, and running their small business.

Ivy has always been community minded, being involved in various local community groups, from the preschool and P&C, to Lismore Greens and School Strike for Climate, and has helped organize numerous events within these groups. She is running on the Greens ticket for Lismore Council Elections this year.

In November 2019 the Mt Nardi bushfire threatened her families’ home. She began by preparing her home for bushfire attack, but after several days it became clear that the best course of action was to collaborate with neighbours and volunteers to help stop the fire closer to the front. The efforts were successful and almost no homes were lost. The fires sparked a collaborative resilience workshop in The Channon, with nearly 100 participants, and various offshoot groups formed. She has recently helped create The Channon Disaster Resilience Plan.
